Cyclone Maha subsides rain in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

After getting heavy to very heavy rains, rains over Telangana has now subsided. For the last 24 hours, only scattered light to moderate rains has occurred over Coastal Andhra Pradesh whereas light rain was seen over Rayalaseema as well as Telangana. For instance, in the past 24 hours, Nizamabad witnessed 4 mm of rain while Ongole recorded 5.7mm

The reason for these reduced rain activities can be attributed to the northwestward movement of Cyclone Maha. Earlier due to Cyclone Maha strong southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal were feeding moisture to Coastal Andhra Pradesh that resulted in heavy rains.

However, now the moisture feed has diminished significantly as the wind direction has changed from southeasterly to south southwesterly. These inland winds are lacking the moisture that is they are comparatively dry in nature which has resulted in a reduction in rain activities.

As per our experts, no activities are expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema for the next three to four days. However, scattered light rain with 1 or 2 moderate spells may continue.

The confluence zone which was responsible for patchy modern rain over Telangana has also faded away. Thus, the weather of Telangana will also be dry but scattered light rain is a possibility. Any significant activity over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana seem to be ruled for the next three-four days.

Now our experts at Skymet Weather foresee that a Low-Pressure Area is expected to develop over the eastern Bay of Bengal which will gradually intensify into a Depression and subsequently into a Cyclone. This system will then head towards the east coast of the country and might give rain activities then.
