After battering southern parts of the country, Severe Cyclone Maha is all set to impact the weather over Rajasthan. According to experts, with the tropical storm moving northwestwards towards east-central Arabian Sea and getting more marked, Maha would be responsible for giving some weather activities over Rajasthan between November 6-8.
Although system would not direction interact with the state but Maha would be infusing humid winds from the Arabian Sea over south and western parts of Rajasthan. Also, during that time we can expect a Cyclonic Circulation to form over West Rajasthan that would further enhance the rains.
Due to the combined effect of these systems, light rain with one or two moderate spells over western regions like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Churu, and Bikaner is expected. Amidst this, Jaipur may also see isolated light rain. Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Dungarpur may also witness light showers.
At present also, there is a cyclonic circulation prevailing over West Rajasthan that has also given rains and hailstorm. In the past 24 hours, Barmer recorded 3 mm of rainfall while on October 29 and 30, light rain was seen in Udaipur. Rains are likley to continue until November 2. Thereafter, on November 3 rain activities will shift towards Southeast Rajasthan wherein Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Jhalawar may get to witness light rain. By November 4 weather will once again turn dry, but for a brief break as by November 6, Cyclone Maha would start impacting the state.
This is also an unusual occurrence of rain activity in the month of November as usually during the months of October and November, the weather in Rajasthan generally remains dry. It is said that the impact of Western Disturbances is usually seen in the northern parts of Rajasthan only.
Until October 31, West Rajasthan has been rain surplus by 145% and East Rajasthan by 104%. These surplus rains can be attributed to the late withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the state. However, isolated light rains have occurred over western parts of Rajasthan during the last few days which was due to the Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan and moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea.
