At present, the weather of Maharashtra is governed by two major weather systems. One is the Cyclonic Storm Kyarr in the Arabian sea and the other is the Low-Pressure Area over the Odisha Coast. A Trough is also extending from the Cyclone up to Maharashtra in the higher levels.
The combined effect of all these weather systems would result in moderate rain with one or two heavy spells in Konkan and Goa until tonight. Meanwhile, the meteorological divisions of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may receive light to moderate rain.
City-wise, Panjim, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Raigad would observe these rainfall activities. Rain in Mumbai would be isolated and light for the next two days.
Already, heavy rains have lashed parts of South Konkan and Goa. According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Panjim has received a whopping 152 mm of rainfall and Vengurla 70 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday. A few intense spells were also observed in parts of Vidarbha today, during early morning hours.
According to the Weathermen, the Cyclonic Storm Kyarr would start moving westwards due to which the intensity of rain would reduce in Konkan and Goa by tomorrow.
Likewise, the intensity of rain would go down in Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra and only light to moderate showers are likely after the next 24 hours.
On the evening of Diwali, patchy light rains with isolated moderate spells are likely in many parts of Maharashtra. The intensity would thankfully remain very light and there would be no hindrance to the celebrations.
