The Well Marked Low Pressure Area prevailing over east-central Arabian Sea is showing signs of intensifying anytime soon. This is a rare system that has prevailed as a Low Pressure Area for simultaneous five days now.

All eyes keep glued to the system as it keeps shifting towards the coast.  The system will first intensify into a Depression and then will soon take the form of a Cyclone which will be named as ‘Kyarr’.

As per the models, at present the system is broad, which might soon intensify into a ‘Cyclone’. As of now, the models haven’t come to a consensus as to when will the formation of the cyclone will place. At present, the system is 450 kms Southwest of Mumbai.

In the next 24 hours there are bright chances of the system to become a Cyclone. This cyclone will carry the potential of bringing a significant storm over the region.

Initially, the system is forecast to move in Northeast direction which might then reverse its path and move westward instead.

As of now, Kyarr will have no direct impact on the Indian mainland. However, the influence of Kyarr will be felt all along the West Coast over Karnataka starting from Mangalore to Karwar as well as over Konkan and Goa.

Thick clouding, rains, thunderstorms and strong winds will impact the landmass for the next 48 hours, after which the threat will start reducing.

There is a chance of this Cyclone to hit Oman coast as per most model indications. However, a slight possibility of the Cyclone moving towards the Karachi coast cannot be ruled out.
