Tamil Nadu has been receiving on and off rainfall since last many days. However, the state and its districts have failed to witness good showers in the last 24 hours.
Now, as cyclone Kyant has weakened into a deep depression and is moving in southwest direction towards south Andhra Pradesh coast, it is expected to weaken further into a depression by tonight and may reach the south Andhra Pradesh coast as a low-pressure area.
It is expected to give fairly widespread rain activities over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu from October 29 till November 1. As of now, many places of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive good rainfall. However, one or two places may also witness heavy showers as well. Normally by this time, Northeast Monsoon reaches Tamil Nadu and Chennai, in particular, receives good rains
But this year there was an unusual delay in withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from south peninsular India. This delay is considered due to the formation of the cyclone Kyant in Bay of Bengal. However, in another two to three days, Southwest Monsoon is expected to withdraw completely and simultaneously, Northeast Monsoon is likely to set in.
