Cyclone Kyant pounds good rains in Odisha and West Bengal Coast

rain-in-OdishaAs reiterated by Skymet Weather, Cyclone Kyant has given good rains over several parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

Isolated places such as Digha has recorded very heavy rainfall to the tune of 96 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday. Kolkata in West Bengal received 27 mm, Diamond Harbour 23 mm, Krishnanagar 5.2 mm. Meanwhile in Odisha, Chandbali observed 19 mm of rain, Paradip 18 mm and Puri 2 mm.

Kyant is presently located around 390 km southeast of Gopalpur, 440 km east­southeast of Vishakhapatnam and 610 km eastnortheast of Machilipatnam.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains and thundershowers are likely to continue for another 24 hours. However, intensity of rains will be more over Odisha as compared to Bengal region.

The cyclonic storm will continue to infuse moisture over the region that will interact with dry and cool northwesterly winds, resulting in rain activity.

While the system will not have much impact on the Gangetic West Bengal, but South Coastal Odisha could see squally winds with the speed of 45-55 kmph gusting up to 65 kmph.

Light to moderate rains will be observed over coastal Odisha during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, isolated light rains are likely in Gangetic West Bengal.
