Cyclone Hudhud surges again in Visakhapatnam

Cyclone Hudhud After facing lull for some time, the very severe Cyclonic storm Hudhud has intensified yet again, as the rear part of the cyclonic storm passes the city. Maximum sustained winds are gusting between 180 and 200 kmph.

Earlier in afternoon, the city had witnessed a temporary phase of clear weather conditions, as the eye of storm, which has a dimension of 25 km, was crossing the coastal city of Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Hudhud had made the landfall in the city earlier in the day and the maximum sustained winds then at the time of crossing was between 170 and 180 kmph, gusting to 200 kmph..

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the situation in the city remains grim for next three to four hours as it will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied with strong winds from the opposite direction. This phase of cyclone holds great damage potential.

Three people have been reported dead in separate rain-related incidents in different parts of the state. Cyclone Hudhud has caused great damage, especially to infrastructure, crops and telecommunications. However, actual figures are yet to be accessed.

Strong winds of 180-200 kmph uprooted trees and electricity poles. Lightweight objects were seen flying, while the weak structures and bus shelters collapsed.

Over three lakhs of people have been evacuated from the coastal districts of Andhra and 93,000 from Odisha.

As per the Skymet Meteorology Division in India, as the cyclone Hudhud moves in northwest direction, heavy rain will be experienced in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana,Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, east Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal and east Uttar Pradesh.
