A Cyclonic Storm, Gaja formed over Bay of Bengal, due to which, winds have converged over the cyclone and the weather conditions over Tamil Nadu have also become dry since the last few days.
Gaja will intensify into a severe cyclone during the next 24 hours and will move in west/southwest direction towards South Tamil Nadu Coast. Therefore, we expect scattered light rains to commence over Tamil Nadu including the capital city Chennai from November 13.
Further, intensity of these rains will increase on November 14, and during that time i.e. between November 14 and 16, moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells are possible over parts of Tamil Nadu especially the coastal stations. Very heavy rains are possible on November 15 when the cyclone will cross Tamil Nadu Coast.
Places such as Chennai, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Karaikal will witness heavy rains.
Chennai will also receive moderate rains spells with one or two heavy spells on the night of November 14 and these rains are expected to continue till November 15. Rains over Chennai will start decreasing from November 16.
See conditions are expected to become rough to very rough from tomorrow onwards. Wind speed will also increase gradually and on November 14 and 15, we expect strong winds with speed of 70 to 80 kmph gusting to 100 to 110 kmph over the coastal districts. Fisherman are advised not to venture near the sea.
