Cyclone Asani has weakened into a depression today morning at 5:30 hours. At present, Asani is just west of Machilipatnam off the Andhra Pradesh coast. It will gradually degenerate into a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region as it is practically stationary. During the last 24 hours moderate to heavy rain lashed coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kavali recorded 124 mm, Ongole 119 mm, Cuddapah 53mm, Kakinada 34mm, Bapatla 30mm, and Kalingapatnam recorded 14 mm of rain.

Rain and thundershower activities are expected to reduce significantly over Andhra Pradesh. We do not expect any threat to Odisha or Gangetic West Bengal due to this weather system. The cyclone Asani lost its intensity as it approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast. Sea surface temperatures reduced over coastal areas moreover ocean heat content also decrease significantly leading to the weakening of the weather system. The cyclone has kept the ball rolling for the onset of monsoon over the South Andaman Sea. Southwesterly winds have strengthened over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal. We expect the onset of monsoon over the South Andaman Sea maybe before time.
