Cyclone Asani is currently at a distance of 300 km from the city and the outers of the storm is reaching the coastline. Light rains have been lashing the city of Chennai since yesterday. These rains have increased in intensity becoming thundershowers, reducing the visibility to 1.5 km. These showers are fairly moderate in nature and will continue to remain so.
Chennai will remain within the influence area of the storm, thus, rains may continue tomorrow as well. However, the intensity of rains will see some reduction. In fact, the after effects may be expected on May 12 as well in the form of light rains.
No damaging rains expected over the capital city of Tamil Nadu, but then, Chennai is surely in for moderate rain and thundershowers. These showers of moderate intensity, with a couple of intense showers can last for at least about 10-12 hours.
Sky will be overcast with good rains today. The Cyclone is now moving very very slowly and is expected to linger on over that area for some time, which means more rain and thundershower tomorrow and day after tomorrow, but slightly on a lighter note.
