The four month long Southwest Monsoon had officially ended on September 30 with below normal rains of 91 percent of the LPA. However, Monsoon had not withdrawn from the entire country until then. Now, Southwest Monsoon has come to a standstill completely paving way for Northeast Monsoon to set in soon.
The withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon followed an undulating pattern with being late in the beginning, was rapid thereafter, became sluggish in between and once again picked up pace making the withdrawal quite on time. Southwest Monsoon usually bids adieu by October 15 or later.
Now, as Southwest Monsoon has come to an end, it is quite clear that the transition phase has commenced from Southwest Monsoon to Northeast Monsoon as the Post Monsoon season has begun. Not only this, weather activity has also become limited to a few pockets only wherein southern parts of the country have been seeing good showers as of now.
Rainfall activity has particularly taken a backseat over most parts of North, West, Central as well as East and Northeast India, with mainly light showers in a few pockets only.
Very soon, Northeast Monsoon will also make an appearance over the southern parts which will once again cause heavy rainfall activity while the northern and eastern parts of the country will slip in into the wintry months.
