July is the peak period for good Monsoon rains in the country. The average daily rainfall is in double digits during this period. And to achieve this figure, all the sub-divisions need to record good amounts of rain.
But, rainfall amounts in the month of July have not been impressive so far due to which the countrywide rainfall deficiency has risen. According to the data available with Skymet, rainfall in the country was deficient by 8.2% From June 1 till July 19, which is the highest for the season so far.
However, good rains in the last three days have helped the country in recording close to normal daily rainfall. On July 20, the cumulative rainfall was 11 mm against the average of 9.6 mm. Similarly, 9 mm of rainfall was observed on July 21 against the average of 9.6 mm. On July 22, the countrywide rainfall was 8.8 mm against 9.4 mm.
The countrywide rainfall deficiency has now slipped to 7% and is maintaining level for the last 3 days. Rainfall during this period was largely confined to East and Central India.
Meanwhile, July rainfall deficiency is still high and it stands at 26%. But, according to weathermen at Skymet, there are chances of good rain across the country from July 25 till the end of the month. A series of cyclonic circulations are likely to originate from the Bay of Bengal and move across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh right upto Gujarat.
Under the influence of the above systems, the country will observe more than the average daily rainfall. North and Peninsular India will experience a little subdued rainfall activity throughout the period. While central and eastern parts of the country will receive good rain, with isolated heavy in pockets.
Good rainfall activity is also expected to pick up along the West Coast during this period. The remaining parts of the country will observe normal rain.
This spell of rain may help in narrowing down the July rainfall deficiency to a large extent.
