The Southwest Monsoon is gearing up to make timely onset over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Slowly and steadily, weather conditions are becoming conducive for the arrival of Monsoon over the islands in the next few days.
According to Skymet Weather, normal date of arrival of Monsoon over Andaman and Nicobar Islands is May 20.
At present, weather models are indicating towards the significant increase in intensity of rains over South Andaman Sea during in the span of next 2-3 days. This will be on account of the formation of cyclonic circulation over South Andaman Sea in the coming days.

Weathermen predict that the system is most likely to get more marked and induce a low pressure area over the same area. This weather system is likely to bring moderate to heavy rains over South Andaman Sea May 15 onwards, making weather conditions conducive for declaration of the Southwest Monsoon.
Weathermen predict that Monsoon may reach South Andaman Sea by May 17. However, it is likely to knock the doors of North Andaman Sea around its official date of May 20.
Meanwhile, onset of Monsoon over Andaman and Nicobar Islands does not have any relation on when it will reach the Indian mainland of Kerala.
Normally, Monsoon takes around two weeks to reach Kerala after making onset over the Islands. The official date for the commencement of Monsoon season in India is June 1, which spans across four months till September 30.
