Irrespective of the onset of Southwest Monsoon, the Monsoon season has commenced for the country as soon as we entered into June. The most awaited four-month long season officially spans from June 1 to September 30.
Hence with the effect from June 1, rains over Indian region would be counted in the account of Monsoon rains.
Taking into the account the rainfall recorded in span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on June 1, the country settled for deficit rains on the very first day of the Monsoon season.
India received 2 mm of rain against the normal average of 2.7 mm, resulting in deficiency of 28%. We can get a clearer picture with the following region wise distribution of the rainfall:
The above mentioned figures show that rains have been faring quite well across Peninsular India. Region was the major contributor, courtesy to Kerala that recorded moderate to heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy spell.
This region was followed by East and Northeast India that also recorded some good rains. Normally we see, Northeast India picking up pace along with the southern region and East India follows much later.
But this time, the pattern has been reversed as Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim have been receiving light to moderate rainfall. On the other hand, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh were short on rains.
Meanwhile, Northwest and Central India remained practically dry with the highest deficiency on the maiden day of the season.
Take a look at the table for the sub-division wise rainfall during last 24 hours.
Weather forecast for tomorrow
No major change is expected in the weather conditions across the country during the next 24 hours. Peninsular India, particularly Kerala and Coastal Karnataka, will continue with moderate to heavy rains.
Besides this, both the islands- Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, will continue to witness heavy downpour.
Similarly, North and Central India will continue with dry and hot weather. But we can see some drop in intensity of rains across East India during next 24 hours.
