Cool mornings, nights to continue in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP

March 14, 2017 5:22 PM |

Winters in DelhiThe soaring temperatures across the northwest plains took a break when moderate to heavy rain and snow affected the Western Himalayan region. This has led the temperatures to curtail down across the northwest plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

The recent pre-Monsoon rains brought a sigh of relief from the prevailing sultry weather that lasted until March 8 at most parts of northwest plains. Maximum temperatures had fallen by  three to seven degrees below the normal average.

Thereafter the passage of Western Disturbance, chilly and dry winds from snow-clad Himalayas once again started blowing over the region.

Hence, March 12 onwards the minimums had also started falling over Delhi, Haryana, adjoining Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Minimum temperatures had fallen by five to seven degrees below the normal average and now settling in the range of 8°C to 12°C.  The cool weather also made the festival of Holi a chilly affair for northern plains.

Further also, these chilly mornings and evenings will continue for another few days. With this, people across the region have to once again dig out the sweaters which they had packed with the increase in temperatures during the end of February.

By Sunday, Skymet Weather foresees the temperatures to rise once again as another Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayas by March 15. This will, in turn, lead both the day and night temperatures to rise once again but the rise would be of a degree or two only.

However, there is still a lag of approximately a week for the temperatures to become very warm. Until then, cool nights and comfortable mornings are expected to continue.

Thereafter, a significant rise in both the day and night temperatures is expected. Maximums will start to reach to mid-30 by the month end.
