Between January 2nd and 6th, many parts of the west and north-west Uttar Pradesh received good rain and thundershower activities including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Najibabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras and Bulandshahar. Due to on and off rain and thundershowers and cloud cover, day temperatures of all these districts remained below normal by 2 to 4 degrees. Dense to very dense fog also engulfed most of the western districts of Uttar Pradesh during the last 24 hours.

In contrast, eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh remained dry and sunny. Maximums of all the eastern districts remained above normal be 4 to 8 degrees. Places like Lucknow, Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Banda recorded maximums in higher twenties. Day temperature of cities remained between 26 and 28. Minimum temperature of all these districts was also 4 to 8 degrees above normal. In fact, day and night temperatures in the first week of January of East and Central Uttar Pradesh matched with temperatures of late February and the initial period of March.

Ongoing rain activities over western parts of Uttar Pradesh will now stop leading to a rise in day temperature. The flow of northwestern dry and cold winds will also drop minimums not only over Western parts but Eastern parts also. Therefore, the difference between the temperature of East and West Uttar Pradesh will reduce in the coming days.
