Contrasting two weeks in terms of Pan India rains in December so far

The month of December began with a bang for the entire country with most parts seeing good rains. Moreover, the week between December 2 and 8 was one of the rainiest weeks. In fact, this aforementioned week saw some very good rains, resulting in excess and large excess rainfall for most subdivisions and just a few observing deficient rainfall. Pan India rains during this period was recorded at 10.7 mm against the normal of 3.7 mm resulting in a surplus of 191 percent.

Usually, during the mid-December, rains tend to pick up pace as the frequency of Western Disturbance increases and Northeast Monsoon also tends to become active in this period. Hardly any rains last week, many subdivisions have seen no rains whatsoever. However, if we talk about the second week, i.e., between December 9 and 15, very little rains were seen.

In fact, during this period, just about 2 mm rainfall was recorded pan India against the normal of 4.6 mm resulting in a deficiency of 56 percent. Moreover, this week’s rain has even affected the seasonal Pan India rains as well. Rains between Oct 1 and Dec 8 were 52 percent excess but now, with no rains last week, these figures have dropped to 48 percent surplus, which is a reduction of 4 percent.

Talking about the coming week, From December 16 to 22, will also remain poor as down south, no significant system is persisting over the Bay of Bengal. For the northern parts, no system is coming up over the Western Himalayas, thus, rains will be absent from this region as well resulting in an overall poor performing upcoming week.
