Monsoon in Delhi made a late appearance, on July 13 which is more than 15 days late. In fact, since January itself, rains have been on the lower side. The month of May was the only month which saw heavier showers.

The month of July had seen some intense rainfall activities for Delhi and the NCR region. So much so that the city recorded over 500 mm of rains making it a bumper Monsoon month. However, same has not remained the case with August.

This month, the Monsoon performance has remained rather poor with only 63.2 mm of rains until August 15 against the monthly normal of 247.7 mm of rains. Talking about the present situation, the national capital is not expected to see any rainfall activity today and tomorrow.

However, there may be the beginning of on and off rains from August 18, but heavy showers are still not likely to be seen. These rainfall activities are to be observed between August 18 until August 21. These showers will be a prolonged one.

At present, the Monsoon trough is away from Delhi, which is why the weather will remain dry. But with the development of the low pressure area and its movement towards Madhya Pradesh, the trough is expected to shift closer to the national capital which will result in the commencement of rains.

Temperatures which have risen to around 36 and 37 degrees, will see a drop when easterly winds will blow over the national capital.
