Consecutive Days Of Century Rainfall Over Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan And Uttar Pradesh

Trijunction of States of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh is receiving heavy rainfall for the last 3-4 days. Most locations in this area have far exceeded their monthly averages and some cities are measuring 3 digit rainfall during this period. Monsoon has been vigorous at many places and active in the area, particularly Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.

A well marked low pressure area is marked over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighborhood. This weather system is the remnant of monsoon low which came up over North Bay of Bengal on 27th July and later moved across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

This low pressure has been quasi stationary over Northwest Madhya Pradesh for the last 48 hours. The upper level wind conditions at height of 25,000 feet and above are blocking its movement. The weather system is likely to meander over same area for the next 3-4 days.

East Rajasthan and North Madhya Pradesh along with Southwest Uttar Pradesh have received heavy to very heavy rainfall.  Jaipur, Alwar, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Kota, Bundi, Gwalior, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Datia, Tikamgarh, Morena and Lalitpur have witnessed heavy downpour. Sawai Madhopur( Rajasthan), Guna( Madhya Pradesh) and Jhansi( Uttar Pradesh)  have experienced more than 100mm rainfall consecutively on 01st and 02ndAugust. In these 2 days, Sawai Madhopur, Guna and Jhansi have recorded 333mm, 251mm and 293mm rainfall respectively.  

These places have already exceeded their monthly normal quota of August. These parts were drenched earlier also with the similar wet spell during 3rd week of July with the passage of yet another low pressure area.

This low pressure has dragged the monsoon trough through and through its center. These conditions will persist for the next 3-4 days, albeit on a weakening note and marginal shift towards North Madhya Pradesh and South Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, the monsoon trough will shift along the foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and further on to Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Assam.

This situation may result weak monsoon conditions over most parts of the country, except foothill of Indo Gangetic Plains and Northeast India. Heavy to extremely heavy downpour is expected over these  parts anytime after 08thAugust and last for about one week.
