Conditions favourable for onset of Monsoon in Kerala between June 5-7

June 3, 2015 3:35 PM |

Satellite Image India 03 JuneOnset of Monsoon in Kerala has been delayed a little from the scheduled date of June 1. However, conditions required for the onset are undergoing changes at present. Precisely, the conditions are inching towards meeting the criteria for onset of Monsoon.

Rain in Kerala

There has been no significant change in rainfall over Kerala in last two days. Rain over the state had picked up earlier around May 31 and reduced thereafter. As of now, rain over Kerala is absolutely isolated and location specific.

Winds are also a little weak at the moment but, they seem to be gaining strength. Weather models are showing the formation of a vortex (organised cyclonic circulation, not spread over a large area) in southeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea, off the Kerala and Karnataka coast.  This system will be instrumental in pulling the Monsoon current over the mainland of India. At present, the cluster of clouds in the Arabian Sea are becoming denser.

Analysing the conditions prevalent, we can say that the conditions are becoming favourable for onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala between June 5 and June 7. Kerala will not receive much rain during next 24 hours. The trough extending from the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh will bring only patchy pre-Monsoon rain.
