Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon generally gets completed by October 15. As of now, Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from some more parts of Jharkhand, most parts of Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State and North Arabian Sea. It has also withdrawn from entire Marathwada and Konkan & Goa and some parts of Odisha, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and Central Arabian Sea.
The withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon now passes through Forbesganj, Ranchi, Jharsuguda, Hanamkonda, Belgaum, Goa, Latitude 15.0°N/Longitude 70.0°E and Latitude 15.0°N/Longitude 60.0°E.
Withdrawal is not attempted from most parts of South Peninsula including Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Patchy rainfall will continue over the South Peninsula for the entire month. Practically rainfall eases out over other parts of the country. Thus, we can say that there are no significant long breaks in southern part of the country. Nevertheless, withdrawal of Monsoon does not mean complete cessation of rainfall from North and Northeast India.

In Peninsular India, there is no clear divide between onset of Northeast Monsoon and withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon. Complete withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon paves way for the onset of Northeast Monsoon.
