The state of Punjab is rain deficient by 15 percent as of now. Except the foothills of Punjab, all other places have seen less than normal rainfall this Monsoon season. In fact, out of 20 districts, six of them are deficient and two are largely deficient.
10 of these districts are in the normal range while two are in excess i.e. Rupnagar and Barnala. Among the ten districts which recorded rains in the normal range, only two saw positive side but the remaining eight are still on the negative side.
Thus, out of twenty, only four districts are on the surplus side while others remain negative which further proves that the state of Punjab has been quite deficient.
Now, a Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas, particularly Jammu and Kashmir. This system is expected to have its effect over parts of Punjab as well.
Therefore, after a long gap, the western part of the state is also likely to see good rains which was so far mostly dry. Rainfall activity is expected between September 14 and 15.
Cities of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawashahar, Roopnagar and Hoshiarpur are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall activities. Meanwhile, southern parts including Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda, Muktsar, Fazilka, Mansa, Barnala and Sangrur will remain dry.
After September 15, weather will become completely dry over the whole of Punjab and showers will not make a comeback. In fact, this may be the last Monsoon spell as Monsoon will start to withdraw from Punjab.
