Coming up: Heavy rains in Jabalpur, Ambikapur, Betul, Balaghat, Durg, Bilaspur

The central parts of the country have been receiving heavy rains for some time now. In fact, the south-eastern districts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have been witnessing moderate to heavy rains since last two days.

Currently, a cyclonic circulation is over southern parts of Chhattisgarh. With this, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are reaching most of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, which is resulting in heavy rains. Clouding is already persisting over the region and heavy rains are on their way to these two states.

This Monsoon season until July 5, East Madhya Pradesh has seen 22 percent less rains to the tune of 143.9 mm. Meanwhile, West Madhya Pradesh has seen 6 percent more rains to the tune of 148.6 mm. Talking about Chhattisgarh, rains have been 18 percent deficient during the same time frame, wherein 200 mm rain has been recorded as compared to the normal of 244 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, rain in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will continue for at least the next two to three days due to which the deficient rain figures will see some improvement.

Thus, moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue for the next two-three days in Durg, Bhilai, Ambikapur of Chhattisgarh along with Umaria, Betul, Seoni, Balaghat, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh.

Due to rains, there has been a decrease in temperature and sowing / planting of kharif crops has been accelerating. However, due to increasing water level in the Tapi and Narmada rivers, flooding can also occur in some areas.
