Comfortable days over for Gujarat, scorching heat to take over

Gujarat is a state that remains free from any significant weather activity like fog, rain and thunderstorm during the winter season. Pre-monsoon activities are also rare in the state. The major change that we get to see is the large fluctuation in the temperatures.

By the end of February, the day temperature in the state begins to rise. And by the first week of March, it soars to uncomfortable levels. The night temperature also jumps to settle around 15 degrees Celsius. A drop in the minimum thereafter is rare.

The rise in the temperatures in the hinterland of the state is comparatively greater. For instance, the day temperature in places like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Rajkot, Amreli and Junagarh hovers around 35 degrees Celsius by the middle of February. By the end of the month, it rises a couple of notches to settle close to 37 degrees Celsius.

If we look at the trend of the last five years, the day temperature in Gujarat has settled beyond 35 degrees Celsius by the end of February.

Almost a similar trend can be seen now. The day temperature in Ahmedabad settled at 32.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday which is going to rise further according to the forecast.

Currently, the wind in the state is cool Northerly due to which the temperatures are settling in the normal zone. But there is a Western Disturbance approaching the hills of North India on February 27 due to which the northerly winds will get suspended for a few days and warm winds will take over.
