Cold weather in North India is here to stay

February 10, 2014 1:56 PM |

Do not pack your woolens thinking that winter is almost over as another spell of below normal day temperatures has been forecast in North India, including the plains and the hills from the 14th of February.

These conditions will be similar to what we are witnessing in the last two days. Minimums have been recording 2 to 4 degrees below normal in Delhi and adjoining areas like Agra, Jaipur, Hisar, Karnal, Meerut. According to our forecast they will rise a little during the next two days but will again fall to record below normal as another Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayan region from Friday onwards.

Due to the presence of icy northwesterly winds that are blowing at a speed of around 20 kmph in North India, the minimal rise in day temperatures during the next two to three days will not be felt in the region. There are also chances of rain from Friday onwards that will keep the cold weather in North India intact throughout the week.

The above mentioned weather condition will also extend eastwards over Indo-Gangetic plains i.e. east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, pulling down the temperatures back to the early twenties. But before that, this region will continue to witness warm day temperatures of around 28°C during the next two days. Patna, Gaya, Allahabad and Varanasi in the region witnessed above normal day temperatures on Sunday.

Chilly mornings in northwest plains to continue

Weather in North India was chilly on Monday morning as the minimum in Narnaul dropped to 2.5°C, the lowest night temperature in northwest plains. According to our forecast, due to clouds they will witness a rise but not before the cloud cover arrives from Friday. So chilly morning conditions will continue to prevail in the region.
