Furthermore, successive Western Disturbances are also persisting over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining region. Due to which light winds from southwest and southeast direction are blowing over the northern plains of the country leading to the formation of a thick layer of fog and resulting in a significant drop in the maximums as well.
After 24 hours, the winds will once again start changing their direction and the minimums across Punjab, western parts of Haryana and North Rajasthan will curtail further.
Henceforth, after 48 hours, the remaining parts of northwestern plains such as Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh will also witness a drop in the temperatures. Therefore, cold wave conditions are likely to cover some more parts of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Thus, January is likely to bring in the much-awaited winter chill that was absent in December.
