Temperatures have fallen below normal by 2-4 degrees in Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat areas due to northerly winds blowing over Gujarat. The chilly winds prevailing at several parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan have resulted in cold wave conditions in parts of Saurashtra, leading to a drop in night temperatures.

While western disturbance witnessed on 25th January affected parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and plains of North India directly, it did not affect Gujarat directly. However, the induced circulation over South Gujarat has affected the temperatures in parts in Saurashtra & Kutch region and South Gujarat.

The maximum temperatures in the mainland have come down by 4-5 degrees, on the other hand minimum temperatures in the coastal areas have dropped appreciably.

For instance, Ahmedabad is experiencing day temperature of 24.3°C which is below normal by 5 degrees. The day temperature in Amreli settled for 26°C, 4 degrees below normal. Baroda’s maximum temperature is 25°C, 5 degrees below normal. Rajkot was 25.6°C, 3 degrees below normal.

Moving closer to coastal Gujarat, minimum temperatures have plunged to come down to single digit. Porbandar witnessed minimum temperature coming down to 9.8°C, 5 degrees below normal followed by a similar pattern in Naliya where minimum temperature was single digit today.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a circulation is expected to form over parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat by 31st January, leading to a sharp rise in maximum and minimum temperature in the states.
