Cold wave to persist in Angul, Phulbani, Comfortable days for Puri, Bhubaneswar

Being in close proximity to the coast, Odisha enjoys a large variation in the weather conditions. While the interior regions of the state reel under winter chill during the month of January, the coastal stations relish mild weather conditions.

Generally, January is known for harsh weather across the interior districts of the state as the same are prone to witnessing cold wave conditions which is the current scenario. Most parts of the state are witnessing the minimums dropping 5 degrees below the normal.

In the last 24 hours, the minimums across most the interior regions dropped to settle in higher singles while the coastal stations still recorded the night temperatures in teens.

Angul recorded 8.6°C which was a whopping 7 degrees below the normal followed by Phulbani with 3.5°C, 6 degrees below the normal. Bhalwani and Dhenkanal recorded 8.5°C and 9.6°C respectively, both reeling 5 degrees under the normal. Jharsuguda and Sambalpur also recorded the minimums at 8.6°C and 9.5°C, both 4 degrees beneath the normal. While, Bhubaneshwar 11.4°C, Gopalpur 13.7°C and Balasore 10.5°C.

As per Skymet Weather, the extension of the cold northwesterly winds flowing along the Indo-Gangetic plains that are reaching Odisha. This is the reason that the interior regions of the state are witnessing cold wave conditions

As of now also, the somewhat similar weather is anticipated to prevail in parts of Odisha for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, a slight improvement is on cards. However, any major relief is likely only when some weather system will approach the region.

Skymet Weather anticipates the arrival of a Western Disturbance in the Northern Plains on January 23 which is likely to put some break on the intense harsh weather conditions over the state.
