The harsh winter continues in North India. For the last 10 days, the cold winds coming from the north are showing their effect and the mercury remains below normal. Cold wave conditions are observed from Punjab to Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and many cities of Bihar. Temperatures below normal will remain even further because cold winds will continue to move in the coming days from the western and northwest direction.
There is also frost in some of the cities of North India. As per the meteorologists in Skymet, northern parts of Punjab and Haryana and some parts of Uttar Pradesh may have frost in the coming days as well due to below normal temperatures. Fog will also be dense in some parts, which will increase the chances of frost. This weather can be harmful to many crops including wheat, gram, peas, mustard, and potato.
The effects of fog will be higher on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In these parts, cold winds from the western direction will continue for the next three to four days. But due to the less speed of the wind, the fog will not get sorted and due to the coolness in the air, the temperature will not increase. Mercury to remain below normal in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Patna, Gaya, and Bhagalpur.
Meanwhile, an active Western Disturbance is coming near Jammu and Kashmir around 26 December, due to which the weather is likely to be active in North India by 28 December. A circulation may also develop over the plains due to the effect of the western disturbance.
