Cold wave prevails in North India, Agra records lowest minimum of season

With icy cold winds sweeping entire North India, cold wave conditions have kept the minimums much below normal in many places. Today morning, Agra recorded the lowest minimum of the season at 0.1°C. Minimums here have dropped by about 10 degrees from 11.7°C on Wednesday morning. In Rajasthan, Bikaner also came down from 4.4°C to 1.9°C. This significant drop is due to the persistent northerly and north westerly winds. Temperatures have been below normal in the state and the cold wave conditions are likely to continue for the next 24 fours. The capital city of Jaipur also recorded a minimum of 5.5°C on Friday, which is 2 degrees below the normal average.

Weather in North India

A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to affect weather in North India from the 7th of January. There is possibility of light rain in Delhi by tomorrow evening. The system will travel eastward, with a time lag of 24 hours, and reach Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Another spell of rain and snow is also expected in the hilly regions of Jammu & Kashmir. Fog in North India will return thereafter.

Though the cold wave has not intensified in North India, but the temperatures still remain favourable for frost formation. With light rain in parts of North India, the maximum temperatures will show a falling trend while, minimums will rise during the next 48 hours.

Weather in South India

In the last 24 hours, only Chennai has received traces of rain in South India. However, the low pressure area in southwest Bay of Bengal will become more marked and move westward across the southern peninsula. This system will bring good showers in south coastal Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala after 48 hours.
