Cold wave grips plains of North India

winterCold wave has gripped North India with mercury dipping significantly over the region. Following the recent spell of fresh rain and snow over the hills, minimum temperatures over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have dropped substantially and are now settling below normal.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, several places have witnessed a drop in night temperatures by two to three degrees during last 24 hours. This has led to cold wave conditions over several places, while severe cold wave conditions at few places.

Cold wave conditions are when the minimum temperatures settle below 10°C and are also five or more degrees below than their average normal temperature.

According to Skymet, no relief is likely from the chilly weather during next few days. Minimum temperatures will continue to settle on the lower side.
