Cold Wave grips a few parts of East and Northeast India, winter chill to intensify

During the last 48 hours, northwesterly cool winds are prevailing over almost entire East and Northeast India. As a result, a drop in minimum temperatures has been observed over most parts of both the regions.

During the past two days, we saw the minimums have fallen by 4 to 6 degrees over multiple areas in both East and Northeast India including the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam. Today, a further drop by another two to three degrees is possible over the region.

Most parts of East India are witnessing below normal night temperatures by two to three degrees. Some pockets have also observed Cold Wave conditions. Day temperatures are also two to five degrees below normal. Chilly effect can be observed in almost all the areas even during the day.

Northwesterly winds are likely to continue during the next two to three days over East and Northeast India. Minimums may continue to fall marginally for another 24 hours at some places.

Sky will remain mainly sunny during the morning hours. Although, moderate fog is likely to appear at some places. Dense fog is also possible at some pockets.

As a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Southern parts of Southeast states, light rain and thundershowers will continue at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
