Cold wave conditions were prevailing over few pockets of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during the last 3 to 4 days.

The worst affected areas in Bengal included Purulia and Shantiniketan with minimum temperatures below 7°C. Temperatures in Odisha were in the range of 7 to 9°C.

The winds travelling from the northwestern plains led to an increase in the chill factor. Basically, the cold conditions were travelling from the west to the east.

At present, temperatures have increased marginally. But still cold wave conditions are prevailing at some places over interiors of Odisha and western parts of West Bengal.

Here's a look at the night temperatures in West Bengal and Odisha since January 24:

During next 24 to 48 hours, temperatures will rise further, leading to abatement of cold wave conditions. But minimums of most places will remain below normal. In spite of rise in temperatures, winter chill will persist for another 2 to 3 days.

Isolated pockets in Uttar Pradesh are also experiencing cold wave conditions. Minimum in Bahraich is 6 degrees below normal at 3.4°C. Lucknow is at 3.5°C which is 5 degrees below normal.

Many parts of East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are also witnessing minimums below normal by 3 to 4 degrees. All the places will register a gradual rise in minimums. During next 2 to 3 days, temperatures will reach near normal levels in most these areas.
