Cold wave condition grips northern plains of India

Cold wave conditions likely over Northern Plains

After witnessing moderate weather with a few cold spells, the northern plains of the country is expected to get swept by icy winds. As per the weatherman, cold wave bringing in hazy mornings and ground frosts are to be expected. 

Minimum temperatures had dropped marginally over the northern parts of the country particularly in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and adjoining regions not sparing a few parts of Uttar Pradesh.

In fact, within a span of 08:30 hours as on Monday, temperatures plummeted in most parts of North India with Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan being the coldest place in plains of the country with the mercury hitting bone chilling 1.2°C followed by Sirsa that observed temperature at 1.4°C.

As per Skymet Weather, dry and cold northwesterly winds are expected to continue over northwest plains from the night of January 10 until January 13. In the wake of this weather system, minimums are expected to plunge marginally by 1-2 degrees.

In fact, Wednesday can also be frosty when the parts of North India can expect ground frosts during early morning hours. When the temperatures in the ground are lower than the temperature prevailing in air, condition of ground frosts occur.

This is more likely to happen in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan. Moreover, as a Western Disturbance is expected to strike the state of Jammu and Kashmir, isolated rain and snow are expected to lash the state on Thursday.
