Presently, the Western Disturbance is moving across east Jammu and Kashmir, further away. Dry north-westerlies are prevailing over the plains of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Due to this, the temperatures have dropped further over the parts of Punjab and Haryana. Although, sky remained mostly clear.

A high moisture content prevailed over the region which provides favorable conditions for ground frost.

Frost is formed when the dew on the ground freezes and forms a thin layer of ice due to the sudden drop in temperatures. Frost doesn’t allow the plant to photosynthesize leading it to turn pale or brown. Such damage is usually seen in plants like potato, peas, tomatoes and capsicum. Frost is considered as one of the major factors damaging crops in India during winters.

Today the minimum temperatures recorded in Aadampur was 1.5° C, Ludhiana 2.3°C, Bathinda 2.9°C, Faridkot 2.0°C, Karnal 4°C, Narnaul 3.5°C, Muzaffarnagar 1°C and at Lucknow was 5.9°C.

Presently, many parts of Punjab have come under the grip of cold air condition. At most places, the night temperatures are below normal by 2 to 4 degrees. The present scenario shows that the same conditions will prevail for at least another 48 hours. Sky will remain clear and night temperatures will remain below normal.
