Icy cold winds from northwest direction are penetrating up to Maharashtra and Telangana. Moreover, coldwave conditions have occurred over many parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh.
In fact, Churu in Rajasthan recorded zero degree on December 17. Today, the minimum temperature has dipped further and settled at -1.1 degree. Many other districts of Rajasthan are competing to reach freezing point such as Ganganagar at 1.1 degree, Pilani 1.9, Bhilwara 1.0 and Chittorgarh 2.7 degree. Amritsar in Punjab also recorded very low minimums at 0.7 degree, Bhatinda 0.8 degree and Firozpur 1.3 degree.
In fact, Delhi at 6 degrees Celsius has recorded the lowest minimum of the season so far.
Some districts in Madhya Pradesh also witnessed minimums below 5 degree such as Gwalior, Nowgong and isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh such as Meerut also saw similar minimums.
Moreover, winter chill has been witnessed up to Telangana. Minimum of Adilabad, Medak and Hyderabad is between 10 and 12 degree. Naliya in Gujarat is shivering at 2.5 degree.
Temperatures may drop further for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter there may be gradual increase in minimums across north west and Central India due to the approach of fresh Western disturbance.
