Cold to intensify in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan despite sunny sky

The Northwest Plains have been approached by two weather systems so far this month, until January 8. In the wake and approach of these systems, a large variation in temperatures have been witnessed in the country. Day temperatures ranging between 20s to low teens have been observed.

As a matter of fact, minimum temperatures have taken a major plunge in the last 24 hours with a drop of almost 6 to 9 degrees over most places. Below is a table comparing the minimum temperatures of January 8 with today.

Yesterday, maximum temperatures which were in low teens dropped well below normal. Now, in the wake of the system, a marginal rise in likely in the day temperatures today despite the Sun, as cold winds are sweeping the region. However, a rise of 3 to 4 degrees is being forecast in the next 24 hours.

Similar weather is likely to continue to prevail for a span of three days beginning today, tomorrow and the day after.

Meanwhile, diagonal variation is likely to increase tomorrow onward. Cold day conditions will now abate the region however, Cold Wave like conditions might appear once again.

Due to lower-level winds, moderately chilly weather is likely to prevail. Feel like temperatures will drop.

Northwest Plains saw extreme weather in the month of December. Prolonged Cold Day conditions prevailed throughout the month and the region recorded very low temperatures clubbed with rains. Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan and Delhi saw fluctuations in these extreme conditions for almost the entire second fortnight of December. Moreover, similar conditions got extended up to the first week of January.
