Icy winds from the northern plains have pierced central parts of the country, as well. Most parts of Madhya Pradesh are reeling under frigid conditions. Many places have witnessed cold-wave conditions. Isolated places have gone sub-zero or hovering around the freezing point during the last 4-5 days.
Usually parts of Rajasthan go sub zero during peak winter and truly so, even this season, Churu and Sikar dropped below the freezing point. Both recorded minimum temperature of -1.5degree on 05th Jan. Nowgong, in Madhya Pradesh, joined the club of freeze by registering low of -1.0 degree yesterday and slightly eased out to 1.5deg today. Parts of Madhya Pradesh, particularly, Nowgong, Datia, Rewa and Umaria have been reeling under cold wave conditions for the last 3-5days. All these stations recorded minimum temperature of less than 4 degree during this period.
Similar conditions are likely to prevail over the state for the next 2-3 days. Arrival of western disturbance over the northern mountains and induced cyclonic circulation over the plains will trigger the change in wind pattern. Flow of chilly winds from the plains of north will get restricted. Change in direction of wind stream will moderate the extreme cold and no further drop in temperatures is likely. On the contrary, mercury may rise marginally during night hours, abating cold wave conditions.
