Cold day conditions continue to cripple life in west and central Uttar Pradesh. Tuesday was the coldest day of the season in East India as the day temperatures dropped 7°C to 10°C below normal. Yesterday, maximum in Lucknow dropped from 13.3°C to 12.5°C.
The diurnal variation has also come down significantly. The maximum temperature in Bahraich is 12.8°C while the minimum is 10.4°C. Similarly, the diurnal variation in Moradabad is just around 2°C. The grip of winter chill has engulfed Bihar as well where the maximums are 8°C to 9°C below normal.

Allahabad, Jhansi and Moradabad also received traces of rainfall yesterday. With icy cold winds sweeping across the plains, the weather in East India has turned severely cold since last week claiming several lives. As the Western Disturbance is moving away from North India, fog in East India is expected to abate leading to a rise in day temperatures. According to the forecast by Skymet, the situation is likely to show some improvement in the next 24 hours.
