Extreme cold has been prevailing over the duo states of Punjab and Haryana for the last many days now. In fact, the region was reeling under Cold Wave conditions in the second half of December. A short respite from cold came in the first few days of January. Soon after, the region is once again under the influence of a Western Disturbance which is moving across the Himalayan region.
Thus, rains accompanied by an overcast sky is prevailing over most parts. This has been followed by a yet another significant drop in day temperatures over both the states. In fact, day temperatures have fallen by as much as 6 to 10 degrees over most parts.
The temperature variation during the day is minimum and is fluctuating by just a degree or two throughout the day. Extreme Cold Day conditions are prevailing over most parts.
Below is the table comparing the variation between minimum and maximum temperatures over multiple cities in Punjab and Haryana, which has come down to as low as two degrees.
As the system still continues to persist over the region, the weather conditions will remain the same today and tomorrow.
Thereafter, a little break will ensue paving way for a short breather before another system follows. The next weather system will once again bring in similar weather conditions over the region.
