Cold day conditions may extend in east India

The relief from cold day conditions on Tuesday in east India will be short lived as a sharp fall in day temperatures are expected over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar starting Wednesday onwards.

According to our forecast, fog in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar  has intensified due to high humidity levels and low minimum temperatures. The presence of fog till noon or even throughout the day will decrease the day temperature as sun will remain in hiding. Temperatures could remain around 15 to 16°C in the region.

The period of cold day conditions may extend further as fog will be followed up by clouds and rains under the influence of a Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir Friday onwards.

Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Gaya  have witnessed a better day condition due to open sky. Day temperature in Lucknow on Tuesday was recorded at 22.4°C . Kanpur recorded 22.6°C while Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh recorded 23.3°C as the maximum temperature on Tuesday.

The weather in Allahabad and Varanasi improved majorly on Tuesday as both the places recorded 25°C as the maximum temperature. Day temperature in Patna also increased by four degrees from Monday to settle at 22.3°C on Tuesday.

The region has been witnessing fog and rain frequently during January which has led to daytime temperatures settling below 5 to 7°C below normal on a regular basis.

From 1st of January till 22nd of January, West Uttar Pradesh received 38.5 mm of rain against the average of 11.8 mm which is an increase of 226 per cent. The region has been under the influence of cyclonic circulations that emerged in Rajasthan and moved to north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of Uttar Pradesh.

After moving eastwards from north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of Uttar Pradesh the above mentioned cyclonic circulation then moved a little eastward bringing rain in east Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi. East Uttar Pradesh witnessed 45.3 mm of rain against the normal of 10.5 mm.
