The bone chilling cold that gripped Delhi today is going to continue for the next two to three days. Day temperatures would continue to remain below the average thus extending the period of cold day conditions in the city. However, nights will come as a relief as minimum temperatures will remain above normal during this time.
On Tuesday, Delhi registered 22.1°C as the maximum temperature which has been observed for the first time in January this year. But by Tuesday evening, Delhi and NCR started experiencing foggy conditions which did not allow the surface heat to escape from the atmosphere. This led to the rise in night temperatures that recorded 10.2°C on Wednesday morning. Minimums in Delhi have been showing a rising trend since the last couple of days.
The appearance of a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is another reason for the below normal day temperatures in Delhi and adjoining plains. According to the weather models at Skymet, the weather system (WD) is expected to travel more southwards as compared to the earlier WDs and affect the plains more than the hills.
There could be rain in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in the next 48 hours. From here the weather system will move eastward and affect East India on Saturday (18th January).
