Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for the fourth phase of Assembly elections on December 14, defying rain and snow in the higher reaches of the state.
The Valley saw a record turnout of over 70% each in last first two phases of elections. The turnout dropped to 58% in view of the militant attacks in the third phase and now cold day conditions could affect elections tomorrow as well.
The Western Disturbance moving across Jammu Kashmir could bring rain and snowfall in the state tomorrow. In view of rain and clouds, day temperature is likely to drop and cold day conditions at many places could have an impact on the voter turnout tomorrow.
At present, maximum and minimum temperatures in Srinagar are at 11.3°C and 0.5°C, respectively. Minimum in Kupwara is below freezing point at -3.1°C. Day temperature in Gulmarg is at 3.8°C, Banihal 16°C, Batote 15°C and Bhaderwah 13.2°C.
The Assembly elections hold special significance as it will determine the fate of senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. His term as a Member of the Parliament in the Upper House will end on February 15, 2015 and this election will decide whether he will continue as the next Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
