There isn’t much happening in terms of weather across the country. The skies are clear and the chances of rain are becoming bleak leading to rise in temperatures. This is indicative that winter is on a slide and the weather is becoming pleasant, though some places are observing above normal day temperatures.
Most importantly the cold day and cold wave conditions that are usually responsible for the bone chilling weather during winters is almost out. Cold day conditions are normally observed when the day temperature is 16°C or less, with a variation of 5 degrees from normal. While for cold wave the minimum temperature should be 10°C or less and variation form that should be 5 degrees or more.
But looking at the temperature profile across northwest India, the day temperatures are hovering around 23°C. And it is highly unlikely that the maximums will come down to 16°C or below, especially at a time when the temperature begins to rise as winter is on its way out.
For instance, Delhi recorded 25.5°C as the day temperature on Monday, which is 2 degrees above the normal average. Similarly, Ludhiana in Punjab saw the maximum settle at 22.5°C, which is 4 degrees above normal. In Patiala the maximum settled 3 degrees below normal at 23.6°C. Haryana too has been observing above average maximums. For example Hisar recorded 25°C as the maximum on Monday, which is 2 degrees above the normal average.
And as we move further into February, the temperatures are only going to rise though, some occasional weather systems like the Western Disturbances and cyclonic circulations may affect the region. But that will not bring about much change in the weather.
