Cold chilly mornings return over Punjab and Haryana

Punjab and Haryana have been reeling under the cold wave like conditions for the last many days. In fact, there was a further marginal drop in the minimum temperatures. Mercury has been settling around 2℃ at many places of both the neighboring states.

The present conditions can be attributed to the weather systems prevalent over North India. A Western Disturbance as an upper air system is moving across North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir. Apart from this, presently, north-northwesterly winds are prevailing over most parts of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.

Due to this, we have seen the day temperatures have dropped significantly over these states by two to three degree Celsius. The day remained cool within a range of 15 to 20°C over the area. The night temperatures have also dropped by 1-2°C.

Take a look at the table below-

Chilly cold mornings have once again returned over the area and the same condition is likely to prevail for another 24 hours.

Thereafter as a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach in the North, a rise in morning and day temperatures may occur by the next 48 hours. Also, light to moderate fog is likely over many places in the region with dense fog at a few places. Due to cool northwesterly winds blowing over the area, day will continue to remain significantly below normal. Sky will remain mainly sunny.
