During the last 24 hours, coastal Odisha has received heavy to very heavy rains. Particularly places like Chandbali, Bhubaneswar, Gopalpur, etc. have received very heavy rains. At present, the Depression persisting over South Coastal Odisha has weakened into a Low Pressure Area. Yet its capable of bringing good rains with itself.

During the last 24 hours, Bhubaneswar received 144 mm rains, Balasore 142 mm, Chandbali 123 mm, Cuttack 113 mm, Paradip 70 mm, Ongole 86 mm, Puri 88 mm, Gopalpur 90 mm and Keonjhar received 46 mm rains.

All schools and colleges have been closed in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Balasore in the wake of these rains.

As of now, this system will continue to move in North- northwest direction. Thereafter, the system will start recurving in North- northeast direction. So, we expect moderate to heavy rains with a few very heavy spells to continue over Coastal Odisha today as well. These rains will be accompanied with lightning strikes and strong winds.

By tomorrow, the rain activities will start decreasing. Rains will reduce to one or two moderate spells. Day after tomorrow a further decrease in rain activities is forecast with the impact of Depression will then shift over to Gangetic West Bengal and Northeast India.

So, the threat of heavy rains for Odisha can be reduced to the next 12 hours.

The interior parts of Odisha will not observe any major heavy rainfall activities. Although light to moderate rain activities are likely to continue here as well. One or two intense spells cannot be ruled out.
