During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy spells have occurred in Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Whereas scattered light to moderate showers was seen in Rayalaseema. As of October 21, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is rain deficient by 3% and Rayalaseema rain surplus by 26%.

In the past 24 hours, significant rains of 98.9 mm have been recorded in Nellore, Ongole 67.2 mm, Kakinada 50 mm, Machilipatnam 43. 8 mm, and Visakhapatnam 26.8 mm.

Now, a Low-Pressure Area has developed over North Tamil Nadu and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coast. This Low-Pressure Area will travel in a northerly direction along the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Therefore, moderate to heavy rain with few very heavy spells will lash the coastal stations of Andhra Pradesh until October 24. Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells can also be seen over Rayalaseema. By October 25, rain activities will start reducing over both the places but scattered light to moderate rains will continue.

By the end of this rain episode, there will be a significant increase in rainfall figures. These heavy rains are very likely to trigger flash floods and waterlogging over the coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh. As per our experts, a red alert has been issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh until October 24.

Places like Nellore, Kavali, Ongole, Machilipatnam, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Bapatla may receive heavy downpour during the next two to three days that is until October 24.

Hence, Northeast Monsoon is likely to be active to vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and normal over Rayalaseema.
