TN rainAfter a scorching start to the month, light to moderate rainfall has brought relief from the sweltering hot weather in several parts of Tamil Nadu, which were witnessing dry, hot days during the last week of April and first week of May. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu is expected for another 3-4 days that will retain the temperatures below normal.

Since last 2-3 days, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu have remained below normal by 2-3 degrees Celsius due to the rain caused by the presence of wind discontinuity that has been persisting from Central India to Interior Tamil Nadu across Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Another cyclonic circulation is also developing over south Tamil Nadu and Comorin area that has resulted in moisture incursion in the form of easterly winds into the state.

As a result, scattered rainfall has been observed in Interior and South Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala and Karnataka.

Rainfall figures in last 24 hours: Coimbatore - 35.2 mm, Dharmapuri 23 mm, Kodaikanal 0.8 mm, Madurai 15 mm and Valparai 3.8 mm.

As the cyclonic circulation intensifies and continues to give moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu, the maximum temperature in the state will remain below normal for another 2-3 days.
