Uttarakhand has been receiving on and off light to moderate rains and thundershowers for the last few days. However now, this rain activity is likely to further intensify significantly.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to lash Uttarakhand during the next few days. In wake of this, threat of cloudburst, flash floods and landslides looms large over the region.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen over North Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand. A trough is also extending from this system along the foothills of Western Himalayas across East Uttar Pradesh up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

This weather system is expected to increase the ongoing activities. And, we believe that Uttarakhand will now witness moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers for the next 2-3 days. Isolated places will record heavy to very rains during the period.

While it is still the pre-Monsoon season for the state, so the development of convective clouds is also possible and whenever these convective clouds advance over hilly regions, it increases the occurrence of cloudburst incidents. Hence, we cannot rule out one or two incidents of cloudburst and landslide over Uttarakhand during the next few days.

So far, the Southwest Monsoon has reached up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal with a delay of around one week. Generally, Monsoon arrives over Uttarakhand around June 20. However this time, we expect that there may be some delay, but till then good pre-monsoon showers are likely to continue.
