Several parts of Uttarakhand such as Almora, Mukteshwar, Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Tehri have been witnessing torrential Monsoon rains. On Saturday, these heavy rains had interrupted the annual Badrinath and Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage in Uttarakhand as highways have been blocked at many places due to landslides.

Due to major silt disposition over the state, almost 20 passengers of a tourist bus in Uttarakhand traveling from Bageshwar had an unusual rescue after the bus slid off the road. Meantime, Uttarakhand is reeling under intense Monsoon rage and the government officials, NDRF have also issued a red alert across all districts of the state.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a Western Disturbance which is seen prevailing over eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, an axis of Monsoon trough is seen running along the foothills of Himalayas. Due to these combined impacts of the weather system, these heavy rains, landslides and cloudburst phenomenon will continue to persist across all the districts of the state.

In fact, these massive landslides have also managed to block the Shimla-Kalka Highway in Solan. Furthermore, this similar kind of destruction has been caused in the adjoining state of Himachal Pradesh. Hence, two national highways are blocked due to the massive landslides and torrential rains. Also, the railway tracks have been damaged and submerged in the water.

Therefore, these torrential Monsoon rains and thundershowers are expected to continue causing increased adverse conditions followed by landslides and cloudburst.  Moreover, the Gangotri and Yamunotri pilgrimages have also been stopped as the routes are blocked after the massive landslide in the area. The damages and flood control efforts have also been led by NDRF and NDRMA organizations.
